The new book were reading in Lit Interpretation is called "Yaqui Delgado Wants To Kick Your Ass" by Meg Medina. So in he opening of the book we learn that Piddy, the main character, is a high school student. Just by knowing that we know there is always going to be issues and drama in high school. So, in her situation we find out that Piddy has a threat over her head. She finds out through girl named Vanessa. She learns that Yaqui Delgado has a problem with her. And obviously from ourbook title there will be major issues. She doesn't know what she did to deserve the threats either.
Pages 1-88 tells us that she lives with her mom and move right before the start of school. So she doesn't know any children and no one that attends the school. They move because their apartment is in shambles and is falling apart.
I think that as far as poverty, we can relate Eleanor and Park to YDWTKYA because of the social class that they are categorized in. Financially unstable, they had to move because of monetary reasons and her being Latina also categorically puts her in a lower status. But surprisingly, the group that picks on Piddy is also the same nationality that she is; which is Latin. So even when you are placed among those who share the same qualities as you do, you might still end up with the short end of the stock and will be left out.
I agree there are definitely similarities between this book and Eleanor and Park. Poverty is one of them, looking forward to how that is explored more as the book goes on.
ReplyDeleteIf you notice in real life, it seems to be most issues are within people of the same nationality which sucks because we are so much alike! we should be lifting each other up!!
ReplyDeleteSo far I love the book YDGWTKYA! I agree with you based on the book title you can already tell this book is going to be filled with drama. I do find it weird all of the books we have read in class deal with poverty.
